Philological information about Kyrgyz was prepared by the Translation Studies division of Dijital Tercüme.
It is the main language of Kyrgyzstan. In studies of its philological heritage Kyrgyz, or in other words Kyrgyz Turkish, is believed to be a Turkic language that belongs to the Kıpçak group from the Turkic branch of Altaic languages. Looking at its distribution, while Russian is mostly preferred in large cities and northern regions of the country, Kyrgyz is still the preferred language of the Kyrgyz population living in southern areas and small settlements.
If we look at the historical development of the Kyrgyz alphabet, we can see that the Arabic script was used between 1924 and 1926, the Latin alphabet was used between 1928 and 1940, and since 1940 the Cyrillic alphabet has been used.
