Language Information - Romanian

Romanian
Philological information about Romanian was prepared by the Translation Studies division of Dijital Tercüme.

Romanian is the official language of Romania. It has more than 28 million speakers, 4 million of which are in Moldova, 23 million of which are in Romania, with the remainder worldwide in Romanian migrant communities.

According to philologists, it is a member of the Eastern branch of the Romance languages in the Indo-European language family, like French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Galician, Romanian, Catalan, Provencal, Ladino and Retoroman. It is very similar to the language of Moldova, and between the two there are only very little differences. Moldovan is written in the Latin alphabet, and the Romanian alphabet mostly resembles Latin, but it does have a few different letters. As well as the normal A, there are two other A letters with accents. Just like the Turkish alphabet, there is an "ş" in the Romanian alphabet. There is also an "x" as well. Apart from this, there are a few more letters unique to Romanian.
